The third advice to a painter. [ca. 1667]

A manuscript copy of five political satires attributed to Andrew Marvell, dating from approximately 1667. These five poems were published in 1667 under the title Directions to a painter and this copy was either made from this early octavo edition, or from a very closely related manuscript. The poems were attributed to Sir John Denham, the mad Royalist poet, to conceal the identity of the true author (or, possibly, authors).
